The Difference Between Being Present and Self-Absorbed

It is easy to be confused about the difference between being present and self-absorbed. Current New Age, pop psychology and self-help literature make them appear to be the same. This is far from the truth. In my experience both personal and professional, there are several differences between being present and self-absorbed. The two that feel most significant are; 1) being present creates a spirit and mindset of service to others and 2) when we are present, we are aware of our inner experiences on many levels AND what is happening around us. When we are self-absorbed, the rest of the world takes a backseat to our own experiences and our own needs/wants/preferences.   The Difference Between Being Present and Self-Absorbed - Providence Holistic Counseling Services - illusion of separateness rich that hang ...

Fear of Silence – It Can Be Loud

The fear of silence runs deep. For many of us, the fear of silence shows up when we are lying in bed at three in the morning with a "freight train brain" and can't fall back asleep. Mindfulness for People Who Are Too Busy to Meditate

I am not convinced there are people too busy to meditate. Still, I appreciate the ideas and recommendations offered in this post, Mindfulness for People Who Are Too Busy to Meditate. I firmly believe, through experience, that anyone who meditates on a daily basis will improve their efficiency at work, home, and life, creating more time rather than taking time from their day. If Presidents, Prime Ministers, CEOs, Celebrities, and Athletes have time to meditate, why do you believe that you don't?...

Sports, Yoga and Meditation Together

It has been a growing relationship for the last decade or so: sports, Yoga, and Meditation as a means of success. The number of professional athletes beginning meditation expands nearly daily, and we are not talking about just the "finesse players." These are hardcore athletes who win and perform at an incredibly high level consistently during high-stakes situations. I have played sports all my life and found that after I began to meditate in 1990 or so, my focus, attention, and endurance increased dramatically. I am not alone, nor did I create this concept. ...
