Two-Part Workshop: Surviving Technology – Creating Spiritual and Energetic Safety

Who thought surviving technology would be a cultural crisis? In the early days of this thing that we call the World Wide Web, I was deep into my most committed and intense period of mental, emotional, spiritual, and energetic awareness and development. To be fully transparent, I couldn’t do much outside of my work at the Urban League: meditation, Reiki, meals, and sleep. I remember booting up my first white MacBook. I would connect to the Internet, and minutes later, I would feel a tingling in my feet like they were asleep, agitation in my solar plexus and chest, fogginess and disorientation in my head, and the sensation of having pressure pushing against the back of my neck. This happened most of the time when I sat at my desk at home. A lesser version was experienced when I would open up and turn on my first cell phone.

As someone who has always been interested in electronics and technology, I knew this was a challenge and an obstacle to staying centered, grounded, aligned, and in my body. I could not work very long before my brain became foggy and mushy enough that I needed to stop.

Many of us are sensitive to light, sound, synthetic fragrances, nitrates, and violence, and technology makes us feel unsafe or “under attack”. I am aware that some folks retreat to their homes to feel safe but then experience even more challenges due to our homes being full of wires, physical and energetic. It can be a lot to manage.

Surviving Technology

Twenty years later, give or take a few years, I have an enjoyable and safe relationship with my iPhone 12, MacBook Pro, and social media. They are not obstacles anymore. I realize in 2023 that I’m a bit of an outlier of people that technology is not a barrier to their mental, emotional, physical, energetic, and spiritual well-being. It may even qualify as an asset!

What: In this two-part series, Surviving Technology, we explore bold and nuanced methods of improving our relationships with technology, the Internet, and social media. This will be an interactive experience of sharing and discovering with several experiential exercises and techniques.

Where: Online through Zoom.

When: September 11 & 18, 8:00-9:30 pm (Eastern Time)

Surviving Technology Part 1: September 11, 8:00-9:30 pm (Eastern Time) – What is the problem, and am I helpless when feeling safe interacting with technology? How do I get influenced, and what are the consequences?

Surviving Technology Part 2: September 18, 8:00-9:30 pm (Eastern Time) – What can I do to make friends with and embrace the world we live in of cell towers, radio and TV waves, utility lines, Bluetooth, Internet, endless emails, TEXT MESSAGES EVERY WAKING MOMENT, cell phones next to our bodies and heads, air pods, social media, “The News ” 24/7, alarm systems, cars and trucks, wires, wires and more wires, microwave ovens, satellites, radiated fruits and vegetables, and the list goes on!

Why: Technology is here to stay. I might as well make peace with it.
